Activities in Waihi Beach

Many activities revolve around the beach and its environment; swimming and snorkelling are the most popular ones. Fishing off the rocks, surfcasting from the shore, baitcasting from your boat or chartering a fishing trip are all favourite pastimes of avid fishermen.

Walking the Karangahake Gorge tracks, taking a hike around the coast to Orokawa, William Wright Falls or on to Homunga Bay are well worth the exercise.

At the southern end of the beach is Bowentown and Anzac Bay, Shelly Bay and Cave Bay,  which are situated on the northern entrance to Tauranga Harbour. There are some wonderful vantage points to look out over the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty coastlines. A swim at the Athenree Hot Pools is a nice relaxing way to finish the day.

A short drive away lies Waihi which is steeped in mining history. The museum and Information Centre displays are well worth visiting.
